Character Education Through Puppetry
A unique and interesting approach for teaching character education is through the use of puppetry. Through puppets, children learn words to express their feelings and to see others’ perspectives. They learn to solve problems, make friends and do their best in school. Puppets can easily act out the standards of good character with dilemmas that address respect, cooperation, honesty, responsibility or whatever trait is desired. The children, in turn, can practice their skills by teaching them to the puppets. Puppets are very versatile in that they can be used with classes, small groups and one on one. Puppet plays are not just for the young. All ages enjoy the fun of puppetry and relate to the “lessons” and real life situations presented.
The puppet plays presented here can also be adapted into role-playing exercises. Each student can take the role of a person affected by an issue. This method of interaction can sometimes be more effective with older students than puppetry with using the same scripts provided.
We begin by offering a few puppet plays on a variety of subjects. We invite you to email us with requests on other topics you would find useful.
